AFTER-MATCH CONFERENCE

Kafarski: Legia was too good
27 mar 2010
Tomasz Kafarski (Lechia's coach): Due to lack of fight and some self-confidence we didn’t achieve success. We left our opponents too much free space on the pitch. 30 minutes of a good game – this was too little to win today. After that time we were falling behind the rivals and they lept us away. I’m disappointed, because we were very close to achieve victory. We failed in some key moments. We were helpless towards Legia’s players.
Białas: We won thanks to our self-confidence
27 mar 2010
Stefan Białas (Legia's coach): This is hard to play in Gdańsk. We supposed that we were going to have a difficult match, but I didn’t even think about losing 0-2 after the first ten minutes of the game. This is a huge success to win the match 3-2 when you were losing 0-2. We were in crisis, but fortunately we were fighting to the bitter end, we believed that this was possible to defeat Lechia and that’s why we managed to achieve final success.
Urban: I want more such matches!
26 wrz 2009
Jan Urban (Legia's coach): We were able to see a match on a good level. This game showed simply how Polish teams have to play. There were lots of situations – for us and for Lech as well. We are happy with the victory, because it means that Wisła isn't going to gain a greater advantage over our team. However, what I'd like to say is that we always have to play like in this match. This can't be an accidental, but a usual thing. Good that the game was even more open than a year before, because this made the match more attractive.

Zieliński: This defeat hurts
26 wrz 2009
Jacek Zieliński (Lech's coach): The audience could like this game, because both teams played offensively. There were lots of situations to score goals. This is a pity that we weren't able to take advantage of them and to strike goals. We wanted to win here in Warsaw and till the 60th minute we were on the right track to do it. Nevertheless, we made two mistakes in the defence and we lost. This defeat hurts. However, if the rival scores two goals, then it wins the match deservedly.
Urban: We have to be more effective
21 wrz 2009
Jan Urban (Legia’s coach): We had great problems with bringing the ball out of defence in the first half. The away team was well organised in defence. Fortunately, the goal that we stroke let us smooth the path. I knew that Lechia had to unfold itself then, and I was right. However, we can’t rave about this victory, because we still can’t score goals. We stroke two, but we wasted lots of situations. We need to have more self-control and score goals even if the result is practically established.
Kafarski: We were afraid of Legia
21 wrz 2009
Tomasz Kafarski (Lechia’s coach): This wasn’t a high-level match. And this is our fault, because there were some moments of the game where we were rivals of an equal rank for Legia. We weren’t in step with the hosts. It seemed as if my players were afraid of something. I didn’t expect that. That’s why there was nothing left for us, but to reconcile ourselves to the defeat. I know that Łukasz Surma could prepare for this match in a special way, but I didn’t see anything usual in the cloakroom.
Slask-Legia: after-match conference
16 wrz 2009
Jan Urban (Legia’s coach): The first half of the match was rather dull. I didn’t expect that Śląsk was going to counterattack in the way it did. The pitch was sprinkled with water – that’s why the game ran so quickly. Śląsk’s footballers knew that we mostly play football in the middle part of the field. This is easy to lose ball there and to create an effective counterattack. We managed to avoid it in the first half. After the break we played more aggressively, so were closer to rivals. We couldn’t play so as if we were trying to draw this match. That’s why it became more open.
Urban: Important points
29 sie 2009
Jan Urban (Legia's coach): Those three points are very important, because we have recently lost too many of them. The final result is of course the most essential thing here, although we would like to play spectacularly. However, it doesn't always succeed. We played against an experienced team which is able to show some good football. We have a two-week brake now and we have to take advantage of it. We can't waste generated goal situations, and this is what we are going to work on.

Szatałow: Our legs were shivering
29 sie 2009
Jurij Szatałow (Polonia's coach): This was an exciting match. Legia generated more situations. Team from Warsaw was coping well in the side parts of the field. We played too nervously in the very beginning. It seems that magic of this stadium caused that our legs were shivering. The lost goal thwarted our plans and we had to uncover. We had some situations, but this was too little for a such club as Legia. We wanted to intercept the ball in the middle part of the pitch, however it sometimes didn't succeed. Our rivals took advantage of it.
Odra – Legia: after-match conference
24 sie 2009
Jan Urban (Legia's coach): We remembered about last year's defeat at this stadium. That's why I stood near the pitch's line. I wanted to be close with my team and I didn't want this situation to be repeated. And frankly, the situation wasn't the same today. The game looked pretty well, sometimes even brilliant. I'm not going to search for excuses such as lack of luck. Everything's due to the fact that we need too many situations to score a single goal.
Lenczyk: There is glimmer of hope
16 sie 2009
Orest Lenczyk: I succeeded to talk to players and to train with them a little bit. It seems that there is glimmer of hope for my footballers. I don't think that teams which play in Warsaw consider winning of three points. Our performance in the match against Legia was either bad, sometimes simply terrible, or good, sometimes simply brilliant. We made lots of mistakes, there was chaos on the field, however we did our best not to lose this game.
Urban: We hand points too quickly
16 sie 2009
Jan Urban: We wanted to attack Cracovia with pressing, however we had problems with its counterattacks. The away team generated some great situations in the first half. Fortunately, they didn't take advantage of any of them. After the break we were definitely prevailing, but due to the rivals' good defence we weren't able to defeat them. Frankly, we didn't believe that we could lose points in a such match.
Arka-Legia: after-match conference
10 sie 2009
Jan Urban (Legia's coach): I think we were the team which was prevailing in this match, although we didn't have too many opportunities to score goals. If we had stroke a goal in the first half, footballers of Arka would have had to play offensively and we would have been able to generate more situations to score goals. The result 0-0 was advantageous for Arka – that's why the team from Gdynia was trying to defend it. The result was determined after Maciej Rybus's free-kick.

Urban: This match hurts...
7 sie 2009
Jan Urban (Legia's coach): This defeat hurts, because we had lots of situations to score goals. We lost a goal very quickly. And this is due to inappropriate cover and unnecessary corner. The team reacted properly and we managed to equalise very quickly. Then we were able to see fight on the pitch. I can't pick at my footballers. They fought to the end. However, we presented lack of effectiveness. The second lost goal was a stupid mistake which we unfortunately had to pay a high price for.
Nielsen: Effectiveness was decisive
6 sie 2009
Kent Nielsen (Broendby's coach): We were very lucky today. We are happy that we managed to go further in the UEFA Europa League. Legia played very well and fought to the bitter end. Both teams created lots of situations to score goals. However, I have to admit that Legia was playing better football than the one presented one week ago. We showed our best side today and that's why we can be happy with the promotion to the next stage.
Legia - Zagłębie: after-match conference
3 sie 2009
Jan Urban (Legia's coach): This is hard to explain what was going on in the first half. We can't play such football. And it doesn't matter that we play against a promoted team. We can't disregard any club. And it would be better if the players didn't complain about the weather, because both teams had to endure the same conditions. I don't have reservations about the second half, however my footballers will have to be punished for the first three quarters.
Legia – Olimpi: after-match conference
16 lip 2009
Jan Urban (Legia's coach): There were moments not only of a good game, but also of a nervous game. We were losing ball. The first half didn't resemble the attitude presented in the friendlies at all. Olimpi played quite well. I have to admit that they surprised us with Brazilian footballers. One of them was very fast and Dickson Choto had to keep an eye on him so he didn't cause problems to Jan Mucha. Our performance in the second half was much better than before the break – we generated lots of situations after which we could score goals.
Urban: I was thinking about the match in Cracow
30 maj 2009
We wanted to end this season nicely and win. We scored a few goals what made the match more spectacular. We played quite well. When we were scoring the first two goals, I was thinking about the match in Cracow. We could score goals there and things would be different now. I regret the fact that we failed in crucial moments of the fight for the championship title. First we played a match against Lech at Łazienkowska, then against Wisła in Cracow. We didn't take advantage of both games and we are not champions. We didn't bear the pressure and there was also lack of football effectiveness.

Fornalik: We made wrong decisions
30 maj 2009
Waldemar Fornalik (Ruch Chorzów's coach): I think that I can only congratulate Legia on the victory and on its position in the league table. Although the win was impressive, I bear a grudge against my footballers that they gave to the rival two goals as a present. We didn't play like in previous matches and that's a pity, because we were fighting for a higher position in the league table. However, the most important thing is that we rescued Ekstraklasa for Chorzów. We had some opportunities to score more goals in today's game, but due to inappropriate choices of my players we scored only one.
Szatałow: Legia was better
17 maj 2009
Jurij Szatałow (Polonia Bytom's coach): We played with a team which presents better quality of football. This was visible to the naked eye, however we did play much better in the second half than in the first. After the break we wanted to attack Legia's goal. However we weren't able to make it. It seems then that I can only admit that Legia was definitely better team in comparison to us. We wanted to keep the ball, but instead of that we had too many losses.
Urban: You have to finish your opponent off
17 maj 2009
Jan Urban (Legia Warsaw's coach): We can be pleased with the victory, however it shouldn't have looked like that. Team which is trying to fight for the championship title and plays against Polonia Bytom, has to finish the rival off if it wants to be respected. And this is not the case, because after the first goal we were able to take only two poor shots. In this way we won't achieve successes, especially as we have to put up young players. I'm happy that Adrian Paluchowski was able to unblock and played the same football as he did during the winter preparatory period.
