Champions League play-off draw: Dundalk vs Legia

At 12 p.m. in Swiss Nyon Champions League play-off round draw took place. In the fourth qualifying round Legia Warsaw will play matches against Irish Dundalk Football Club. The first game will be played on 16th or 17th August in Ireland at Dublin Arena (Aviva Stadium) and the return game a week later at Łazienkowska.

Due to Legia’s exclusion from the UEFA Champions League, Warsaw team still has a chance to play in the European games. In the UEFA Europa League fourth qualifying round draw that took place in Swiss Nyon on Friday afternoon, Legia came up against Kazakh FC Aktobe.

Due to the fact that Legia’s suspended player Bartosz Bereszyński (he received a red card during one of the matches of the UEFA Europa League in the season 2013/2014 and was suspended for the next three games) appeared on the pitch for the last three minutes in the second leg game of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round against Celtic Glasgow in Edinburgh on Wednesday, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body decided to change the 2-0 Legia’s victory in Scotland into 3-0 walkover for Celtic Glasgow. This means that the final result is 4-4 on aggregate and this is Celtic Glasgow which gets through to the fourth qualifying round on away goals.

UEFA Champions League: Legia Warsaw 2-2 FC Steaua București

In the second leg of the fourth qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League Legia’s footballers drew 2-2 with FC Steaua’s players at their own stadium on Tuesday evening. Due to Legia’s 1-1 draw in Bucharest a week earlier, these are FC Steaua’s players, who qualified to the group phase of the tournament. The team from Romania won on away goals (3-3 in two-legged tie).

In the first leg of the fourth qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League Legia Warsaw drew 1-1 with FC Steaua in Bucharest on Wednesday evening. Romanian footballers were prevailing in the first half and only due to Warsaw team’s goalkeeper’s great attitude they only were able to strike one goal.

- Frankly speaking, I didn’t want to play against Steaua. This Romanian club mostly consists of native footballers. They proved with last-season results that they had been demanding rivals. They managed to win the promotion to the 1/8 final of the UEFA Europa League and showed nice football – said Legia’s coach Jan Urban after UEFA Champions League 4th qualifying round draw.

At 11.45 a.m. in Swiss Nyon there was a draw of the Champions League fourth qualifying round. Legia Warsaw plays against Army Sports Club Steaua (Romanian: CSA Steaua București). The first leg takes place in Bucharest on 20th or 21st August and the return match will be played in Warsaw on 27th or 28th August.

After Legia’s match in Moscow which took place on 25th August 2011 its 1000 supporters spontaneously decided to thank their footballers for the 3-2 victory over FC Spartak in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League fourth qualifying round and for qualifying to the group stage of the tournament. That’s why they came at 2.00 a.m. to the Warsaw Chopin Airport.

UEFA Europa League: FC Spartak Moscow 2-3 Legia

After an amazing football show in Moscow, Legia’s players qualified to the group stage of the UEFA Europa League by defeating 5-4 FC Spartak in a two-legged tie. In the first leg of the fourth qualifying round which took place in Warsaw there was a 2-2 draw. Although Legia was losing 0-2 in the return match in the capital of Russia, Warsaw team’s footballers pulled themselves together and unbelievably scored three goals.

In the first leg of the UEFA Europa League’s fourth qualifying round Legia’s footballers drew 2-2 with Russian FC Spartak Moscow. Legia’s Radović and Spartak’s Ari scored two goals for their teams. There were nearly 23.500 people in the stands of Warsaw club’s stadium. Legia’s supporters prepared an impressive stands show – "ULTRAS – we hate everyone" (Polish: "ULTRAS – nienawidzimy wszystkich"). They also galvanised their players very loudly throughout the game.
