Polish Cup: Podbeskidzie 1-4 Legia

In the first leg of the Polish Cup semifinal, which took place on Wednesday evening in Bielsko-Biała, Legia Warsaw outclassed 4-1 Podbeskidzie. The first goal was struck in the 24th minute by Michał Masłowski. Legia’s player decided to take a shot at rivals’ goal and scored the goal, indeed. Podbeskidzie’s goalkeeper made a terrible mistake. The football had glanced off in front of him and seeped through his hands.

In the second leg of the Polish Cup quarterfinal Warsaw footballers drew 1-1 with Śląsk Wrocław at Łazienkowska. The first goal was struck in the 12th minute of the game. Śląsk’s Peter Grajciar took advantage of Dušan Kuciak’s mistake and defeated Legia’s goalkeeper.

In the first leg of the Polish Cup quarterfinal Legia Warsaw only drew 1-1 with Śląsk in Wrocław on Thursday evening. Warsaw players had scored the goal seconds before the referee finished the first half. Its author was Michał Żyro.

In the 1/8 final of the Polish Cup Legia defeated 3-1 Pogoń Szczecin at Łazienkowska. It may seem that it was an easy game for Warsaw club but it wasn’t. Legia needed extra time to win because after 90 minutes there was a 1-1 draw.

In the 1/16 Polish Cup final Warsaw footballers won 4-0 with Miedź in Legnica. Miroslav Radović struck two goals for his team, and Ivica Vrdoljak and Jakub Kosecki added two single goals. What’s worth mentioning is the fact that both teams had to finish the game with only ten men on the pitch because of red cards shown them by the referee.

Legia Warszawa lost 1-3 with a Górnik Zabrze. The Warsaw team was eliminated from the competition in the Polish Cup 1/8 finals. The only goal for Legia scored Helio Pinto in 71th minutes. Legia doesn't defend the trophy, which was winning three years in a row.

In the 1/16 final of the Polish Cup Legia easily defeated 3-0 Rozwój in Katowice on Saturday afternoon. Two goals were struck by Marek Saganowski and one by Jakub Kosecki. There were 250 Legia’s fans present in Katowice. Due to the fact that they couldn’t enter the stadium, they decided to stay behind the fence from where they supported their team.

In the first leg of the Polish Cup final Legia’s footballers defeated 2-0 their opponents in Wrocław on Thursday evening. Both goals were scored by Marek Saganowski in the first half of the match. It’s worth mentioning that in Legia’s lineup there were a few players who don’t usually have many occasions to play regularly in the first team. Nevertheless, they were able to win with Śląsk.

Legia Warsaw managed to defeat 4-1 Olimpia Grudziądz in the Polish Cup quarterfinal on Tuesday evening. Although footballers from the capital of Poland were losing 0-1 after the first half, they were able to pull themselves together and strike their opponents four goals.

In the second leg of Polish Cup’s semifinal Legia managed to defeat 2-1 Arka’s footballers. The first goal was scored by Nacho Novo in the 23rd minute of the game. Moreover, this has been the first time as the player struck a goal for Legia. Arka’s Piotr Kuklis equalised six minutes after the break. The final winning goal for Warsaw team scored Janusz Gol a minute before the end of the second half.

There was no surprise – Legia’s players defeated 4-1 Rozwój Katowice’s reserve squad in the 1/16 final of the Polish Cup. Legia's fans' demonstration

Due to the decision of Masovian voivode, Legia’s match against Korona Kielce had to be played without presence of supporters. This political and ridiculous resolution was made on application of Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk who used to be Lechia’s fanatic many years ago. This was a retribution for the situation from the final game of the Polish Cup in Bydgoszcz when hundreds of fans entered the pitch to celebrate the victory with their footballers.

By defeating Lech Poznań 5-4 in penalties in Bydgoszcz on Tuesday, Legia’s footballers won the Polish Cup. Warsaw team gained this trophy for 14th time in its history. It also appeared in the final of these games for 20th time. Thanks to the victory players from the capital of Poland will be able to participate in the UEFA Europa League.

After three years of waiting footballers of Legia managed to win the main trophy of the Polish Cup – the golden cup, again. In the final game, which took place at Zawisza’s stadium in Bydgoszcz on Tuesday, they defeated players of Lech Poznań 5-4 in penalties. After full time both teams were drawing 1-1. The first goal was scored by Lech in the first half but Legia equalised after the break. Extra time didn’t emerge the winner, so there was necessity to conduct a penalty shootout. Polish Cup: Young Legia 3-2 RKS Ursus

Young Legia’s players qualified to the provincial quarterfinal of the Polish Cup. They managed to defeat 3-2 footballers of RKS Ursus. Although Young Legia was losing 0-2 after Medvediev’s and Goliczewski’s goals, it coped with the tough situation and was able to strike three goals and win the game. After a demure 1-0 victory over Lechia in the first leg of Polish Cup’s semifinal, Legia played the return match on Wednesday, hoping for the promotion to its final. Warsaw footballers predominated over their opponents practically in the whole game. This resulted in goals for the team from the capital Poland. After the end of the first half, players from Warsaw were leading 1-0 thanks to a tremendous shot of Miroslav Radović in the 24th minute. In the first leg of Polish Cup’s semi-final Legia was able to win 1-0 with Lechia, although this was the team from Gdańsk which was leading most of the time. After quite good game Legia’s players were able to defeat 2-0 Ruch Chorzów in the second leg of the Polish Cup’s quarterfinal and they won the promotion to the semifinal. Both goals were scored by Warsaw team’s captain Ivica Vrdoljak – the first few seconds before the end of the first half and the second nearly fifteen minutes after the break. Footballers from Łazienkowska drew 1-1 in the first match played in Upper Silesia two weeks ago. In the first leg of Polish Cup’s quarterfinal Legia only drew 1-1 with Ruch in Chorzów on Tuesday. Warsaw footballers played really poor in the first half and probably that is why the host team was leading 1-0. The only goal was scored by Ruch’s Arkadiusz Piech in the 15th minute of the game. In the one-eighth final of Polish Cup footballers of Legia managed to win their match against Śląsk Wrocław thanks to two tremendous goals scored by Sebastian Szałachowski and have been promoted to the quarterfinal of the tournament. The first half of the game finished with a 0-0 draw. All three goals were scored after the break.

Jagiellonia Białystok managed to defeat 1-0 Pogoń Szczecin at Zawisza's stadium in Bydgoszcz and for the first time in its history won the Polish Cup. The only goal was scored by Andrius Skerla four minutes after the beginning of the game's second half. There were about 7.000 Pogoń's and Legia's supporters altogether and 4.500 fans of Jagiellonia in the stands. Eventually, after four matches without victory, Legia managed to defeat its opponent. Unfortunately this wasn’t enough to win the promotion to the Polish Cup’s semifinal, because Ruch stroke a goal at Łazienkowska. The team from Chorzów won on away goals. Although Legia's players managed to win 2-1 the second leg of the Polish Cup's quarterfinal against Ruch, this is the team from Chorzów which has been promoted to the semifinal. Due to Warsaw team's defeat (0-1) last Tuesday, Ruch Chorzów managed to win the competition on away goals.

Legia lost its third match in a row. In the first leg of the Polish Cup’s quarterfinal, Stefan Białas’s footballers weren’t able to beat Ruch Chorzów at Cicha. Moreover, thanks to Ruch’s Artur Sobiech, who entered the pitch in the 57th minute and scored a goal in the 73rd mnute of the game, this was the host team which managed to win the match. Due to two defeats in a row: with Odra Wodzisław (0-1) and with Polonia Bytom (0-1) members of Legia’s board decided to fire Warsaw team's coach, Jan Urban. During yesterday's after-match conference Urban said he was still Legia's coach. However he added that he hadn't checked his cellular phone.
Without Szala for two weeks

At the beginning of Sunday’s game against Odra Wodzisław Legia’s defender, Wojciech Szala, suffered an injury. During the after-match conference Warsaw team’s coach, Jan Urban, admitted that probably the player had slightly torn his biceps femoris. The diagnosis was confirmed by Legia’s doctor, Stanisław Machowski. This means that Szala has to pause for at least two weeks.
