UEFA Europa League: Hapoel Tel Aviv 2-0 Legia Warsaw

Legia Warsaw lost 0-2 its last match of the UEFA Europa League’s group stage against Hapoel Tel Aviv Football Club on Thursday evening. During the game, Wojciech Skaba was Warsaw team’s first goalkeeper. Everything due to the fact that Dušan Kuciak was punished with a red card in the match against PSV Eindhoven which took place in the capital of Poland on 30th November.

After a tremendous game Legia’s players managed to defeat 3-0 Lechia’s footballers on Saturday evening. Warsaw team took revenge on players from Pomerania for their last year’s 3-0 defeat. Goals for the club from the capital of Poland were scored by: Ivica Vrdoljak, Miroslav Radović and Rafał Wolski. There were nearly 20.000 people in the stands.

In the match between Jagiellonia Białystok and Legia Warsaw, which took place in Białystok on Monday and which closed the thirteenth fixture of the Ekstraklasa, there was a goalless draw. The football rivalry – especially in the first half of the game – didn’t abound in lots of goal situations. The only accurate shot for Legia was taken by Ivica Vrdoljak but Jagiellonia’s goalkeeper coped with it.

There was an attendance record on Sunday – during the league game against Wisła Cracow there were over 25.000 people in the stands of new Legia’s stadium. Warsaw club’s footballers played a pretty good game and they deservedly defeated 2-0 current Polish football champions Wisła Cracow. The first goal was scored by Danijel Ljuboja in the 24th minute of the game and the final one was struck by Janusz Gol 45 minutes later.

After a pathetic first half and fantastic performance on the pitch after the break, Legia’s players won their first three points in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. They defeated 3-2 Israeli Hapoel Tel Aviv F.C. Miroslav Radović, who stroke the decisive winning goal in the 90th minute of the game, became the man of the match. There were over 21.000 people who gathered in the stands of Legia’s new stadium.

Eventually, after a number of defeats, Legia’s footballers managed to break a spell and thanks to Jakub Wawrzyniak’s and Miroslav Radović’s goals they defeated 2-0 the team from Bełchatów. Warsaw club’s coach Maciej Skorża let young players – Rafał Wolski, Daniel Łukasik and Maciej Górski – play in the match. There were about 400 fans from Warsaw who decided to support their team in Bełchatów.

There was no surprise – Legia’s players defeated 4-1 Rozwój Katowice’s reserve squad in the 1/16 final of the Polish Cup. In the derby game which took place at the General Kazimierz Sosnowski Stadium on Sunday, Polonia Warsaw defeated 2-1 its local rival Legia. This has been the third league match in a row that was lost by the team from Czerniaków. The only goal for Legia was scored by Miroslav Radović in the first half of the game. Goals for Polonia were struck by Jodłowiec and Cani.

UEFA Europa League: PSV Eindhoven 1-0 Legia

In the first match of the group stage of the UEFA Europa League Legia’s footballers were defeated 1-0 by PSV’s players in Dutch Eindhoven. The only goal was scored by Mertens in the 21st minute of the game. Warsaw team presented very poor football on the pitch on Thursday. In the first half it didn’t shoot (even once!) on the opponents’ goal. Although it was a little bit better after the break, it was still not enough to defeat players from the Netherlands.

Legia has lost the second match in a row in Warsaw this season. This time, Warsaw club’s footballers were “punished” 2-1 by opponents from Bielsko-Biała. Legia’s players disgraced themselves in front of 18.500 people in the stands. Moreover, due to the fact that Podbeskidzie appears for the first time in the Ekstraklasa and it wasn’t able to win any game before, this is also its first historical victory in Polish highest division.

Legia’s footballers coped with their rivals from Łódź and defeated them 3-1 in Bełchatów on Monday. The first goal was scored by Ivica Vrdoljak in the 13th minute of the game – Legia’s player properly executed a penalty which was result of the situation when Jakub Wawrzyniak had been pulled by his T-shirt in the penalty area by one of ŁKS’s midfielders a minute earlier.

After an amazing football show in Moscow, Legia’s players qualified to the group stage of the UEFA Europa League by defeating 5-4 FC Spartak in a two-legged tie. In the first leg of the fourth qualifying round which took place in Warsaw there was a 2-2 draw. Although Legia was losing 0-2 in the return match in the capital of Russia, Warsaw team’s footballers pulled themselves together and unbelievably scored three goals.

There were about 18.500 supporters who came to Legia’s new stadium to see the game between Warsaw club and the team from the Lower Silesia. Unexpectedly, Legia’s players were defeated 2-1 by their opponents from Wrocław. Unfortunately, Maciej Skorża’s footballers’ attitude wasn’t as good as it used to be few days earlier. Only the finish of the match was quite well.

UEFA Europa League: Legia 2-2 FC Spartak Moscow

In the first leg of the UEFA Europa League’s fourth qualifying round Legia’s footballers drew 2-2 with Russian FC Spartak Moscow. Legia’s Radović and Spartak’s Ari scored two goals for their teams. There were nearly 23.500 people in the stands of Warsaw club’s stadium. Legia’s supporters prepared an impressive stands show – "ULTRAS – we hate everyone" (Polish: "ULTRAS – nienawidzimy wszystkich"). They also galvanised their players very loudly throughout the game.

With more than 17.500 supporters present in the stands Legia’s footballers coped with Górnik’s players, defeating 3-1 the team from Zabrze. Danijel Ljuboja scored his first two goals being Warsaw team’s member. Miroslav Radović was author of the third goal. 750 supporters from Warsaw and Sosnowiec cheered Legia’s team during its game against Cracovia in Cracow on Sunday. Thanks to two Manu’s goals and one Radović’s goal, Warsaw team’s players defeated 3-1 the host team. After the match had finished, footballers from the capital of Poland celebrated their victory together with fans. Legia advanced to the 4th qualifying round of the Europa League, led by the very loud cheers of over 20 thousand supporters. The “Soldiers” tied 0-0 against Gaziantepspor, but the 0-1 victory against the Turks from the week before resulted in Legia’s promotion. The draw for the next round will take place on Friday. Warsaw footballers managed to defeat 1-0 Turkish Gaziantepspor in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. The only goal was scored by Miroslav Radović in the 51st minute of the game. There were over 200 supporters from Warsaw who decided to travel to Gaziantep to galvanise their players. More than 15.000 people gathered in the stands of new Legia’s stadium to see the match between Legia and Polonia Bytom. Warsaw team’s supporters firmly defeated 4-0 their rivals from Silesia and finished the season 2010/2011 in the third place. Miroslav Radović was recognised as the man of the match as he scored a hat trick.

In the last away game of the season 2010/2011 Legia’s players managed to smash 5-2 Arka’s footballers. The host team had to finish the game with only eight people on the pitch! One of them was punished with a red card by the referee. The other two footballers suffered injuries but due to the fact that Arka’s coach had made three substitutions earlier, he couldn’t replace those injured players. Michał Kucharczyk struck two goals and Manu, Radović and Borysiuk scored single goals. Arka’s Szmatiuk scored two goals for his club within only two minutes.

Legia’s footballers managed to defeat 2-0 the new Polish football champion Wisła Cracow. There were more than 19.000 people in the stands. Warsaw team’s supporters protested throughout the game against the policy of the government and its decisions of closing stadiums and not letting Polish supporters travel to other cities to see their team’s games. To deride Polish politicians, they invited well known Krzysztof Kononowicz, who is trying to become a famous and important politician and who was presenting his election programme during the game.

Legia only drew 1-1 with Górnik in Zabrze. Although Legia’s team created a lot of situations to score a number of goals, it managed to strike only one. Jakub Wawrzyniak was its author. When everyone thought that Legia was going to win the game, seconds before referee’s final whistle Górnik’s player Daniel Sikorski equalised.

Due to the decision of Masovian voivode Legia’s match against Korona Kielce which took place on Friday had to be played without presence of the public. This was a retribution for the situation from the final game of the Polish Cup in Bydgoszcz when hundreds of fans entered the pitch to celebrate the victory with their footballers.

After three years of waiting footballers of Legia managed to win the main trophy of the Polish Cup – the golden cup, again. In the final game, which took place at Zawisza’s stadium in Bydgoszcz on Tuesday, they defeated players of Lech Poznań 5-4 in penalties. After full time both teams were drawing 1-1. The first goal was scored by Lech in the first half but Legia equalised after the break. Extra time didn’t emerge the winner, so there was necessity to conduct a penalty shootout. Although Legia’s footballers managed to defeat 4-0 Lechia’s players in the second leg of Polish Cup’s semifinal on Wednesday, they had to cope with 1-2 defeat in the game against the team from Gdańsk on Saturday. After a demure 1-0 victory over Lechia in the first leg of Polish Cup’s semifinal, Legia played the return match on Wednesday, hoping for the promotion to its final. Legia wasn’t able to win the fifth match in a row. Although they were definitely better on the pitch than their rivals and even due to great performance of Warsaw club’s goalkeeper Wojciech Skaba who let his team save its bacon many times, these were Lech’s footballers who struck the only goal of the game. This was scored in the 83rd minute by Artjoms Rudnevs.

After a few defeats in a row Legia managed not to lose its match. The team from Warsaw drew 2-2 with Zagłębie Lubin on Saturday. The first goal was scored by the team from Lower Silesia after a tremendous shot of Abwo. Just before the break Legia equalised thanks to a penalty which was executed by Vrdoljak. Maciej Skorża’s footballers predominated over their rivals most of the time but they suffered from the lack of efficacy.
