Friendly: Legia 5-0 Pilica Białobrzegi

In a friendly game against Pilica Białobrzegi which took place on the side pitch yesterday Legia’s footballers managed to score five goals. Warsaw club’s coaching staff decided to make use of this game to take a closer look at players who don’t have the opportunity to appear regularly in the starting lineup. Legia’s footballers were undeniably better than players from Polish Fourth Division and won 5-0. Two goals were scored by Michał Żyro. Single goals were struck by: Moshe Ohayon, Danijel Ljuboja and Janusz Gol.

Similarly to players from Legia’s senior squad, their younger colleagues also managed to defeat 3-1 (Młoda Ekstraklasa) Cracovia’s young team. Two goals were scored by Maciej Górski and the final goal for Young Legia’s team was struck by Kamil Kamiński.

750 supporters from Warsaw and Sosnowiec cheered Legia’s team during its game against Cracovia in Cracow on Sunday. Thanks to two Manu’s goals and one Radović’s goal, Warsaw team’s players defeated 3-1 the host team. After the match had finished, footballers from the capital of Poland celebrated their victory together with fans. Legia advanced to the 4th qualifying round of the Europa League, led by the very loud cheers of over 20 thousand supporters. The “Soldiers” tied 0-0 against Gaziantepspor, but the 0-1 victory against the Turks from the week before resulted in Legia’s promotion. The draw for the next round will take place on Friday. Warsaw footballers managed to defeat 1-0 Turkish Gaziantepspor in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. The only goal was scored by Miroslav Radović in the 51st minute of the game. There were over 200 supporters from Warsaw who decided to travel to Gaziantep to galvanise their players. Legia drew 1-1 its last game during the preparatory camp in Austria. Warsaw players’ rivals were footballers of German TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The match took place in Traun. It is possible that German team 1. FSV Mainz 05 will be Legia’s opponent in the third qualifying round of UEFA Europa League. Because of this fact Warsaw team’s coach Maciej Skorża decided to choose the best players for the friendly game against the club from the Bundesliga. The match took place in Schladming. Due to some injuries Maciej Rybus, Michal Hubnik and Dickson Choto weren’t able to appear on the field. Inaki Astiz, whose disposition hasn’t been too impressive recently, didn’t take part in the game, too.

Legia’s footballers played SK Vorwärts in Steyr yesterday. Legia’s rivals have recently won the promotion to the Austrian Regional League. In the first half players from the capital of Poland prevailed over their opponents and thanks to Rafał Wolski’s goal they were leading 1-0. First 45 minutes of the match finished with this result.

Legia lost 1-3 its friendly game against MSV Duisburg in Austria. However, Warsaw team’s players could have been delighted with its beginning. After Legia’s first action and thanks to Bruno Soares’s own goal, footballers from the capital of Poland were leading 1-0. Unfortunately, it was only worse since then. German players equalised thanks to… Michał Żewłakow’s own goal. Legia’s defender was trying to stop the ball with a sliding tackle from finding its way to the net.

In the first friendly game of the preparatory camp in Austria Warsaw footballers managed to defeat 2-1 SV Horn. Until the end of the first half the team from the capital of Poland was leading 1-0 after Maciej Rybus’s goal scored in the third minute. Seconds after the beginning of the second half Michał Kucharczyk struck the second goal for Legia. More than 15.000 people gathered in the stands of new Legia’s stadium to see the match between Legia and Polonia Bytom. Warsaw team’s supporters firmly defeated 4-0 their rivals from Silesia and finished the season 2010/2011 in the third place. Miroslav Radović was recognised as the man of the match as he scored a hat trick.

In the last away game of the season 2010/2011 Legia’s players managed to smash 5-2 Arka’s footballers. The host team had to finish the game with only eight people on the pitch! One of them was punished with a red card by the referee. The other two footballers suffered injuries but due to the fact that Arka’s coach had made three substitutions earlier, he couldn’t replace those injured players. Michał Kucharczyk struck two goals and Manu, Radović and Borysiuk scored single goals. Arka’s Szmatiuk scored two goals for his club within only two minutes.

Legia’s footballers managed to defeat 2-0 the new Polish football champion Wisła Cracow. There were more than 19.000 people in the stands. Warsaw team’s supporters protested throughout the game against the policy of the government and its decisions of closing stadiums and not letting Polish supporters travel to other cities to see their team’s games. To deride Polish politicians, they invited well known Krzysztof Kononowicz, who is trying to become a famous and important politician and who was presenting his election programme during the game.

Although Legia had to play with only nine men on the pitch in the second half, due to Jagiellonia’s players’ ineffectiveness and Skaba’s good performance, the team from Warsaw luckily managed to draw 0-0. We encourage you to see 43 photos from the game taken by Mishka.

Legia only drew 1-1 with Górnik in Zabrze. Although Legia’s team created a lot of situations to score a number of goals, it managed to strike only one. Jakub Wawrzyniak was its author. When everyone thought that Legia was going to win the game, seconds before referee’s final whistle Górnik’s player Daniel Sikorski equalised.

Due to the decision of Masovian voivode, Legia’s match against Korona Kielce had to be played without presence of supporters. This political and ridiculous resolution was made on application of Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk who used to be Lechia’s fanatic many years ago. This was a retribution for the situation from the final game of the Polish Cup in Bydgoszcz when hundreds of fans entered the pitch to celebrate the victory with their footballers.

After three years of waiting footballers of Legia managed to win the main trophy of the Polish Cup – the golden cup, again. In the final game, which took place at Zawisza’s stadium in Bydgoszcz on Tuesday, they defeated players of Lech Poznań 5-4 in penalties. After full time both teams were drawing 1-1. The first goal was scored by Lech in the first half but Legia equalised after the break. Extra time didn’t emerge the winner, so there was necessity to conduct a penalty shootout. Young Widzew 2-0 Young Legia

Footballers of Young Legia were defeated 2-0 by their young rivals from Łódź (Młoda Ekstraklasa). Moreover, Dariusz Banasik’s players had to finish the game with only… eight men on the pitch! This was the result of two yellow cards which were shown by the referee to Cichocki, Lisowski and Furman. Both goals were struck in the last twenty minutes of the game. There were over 16.000 people who gathered in the stands of Legia’s new stadium to see the match against Widzew Łódź last Friday. After a very poor game Warsaw players won it 1-0. Young Legia’s players qualified to the provincial quarterfinal of the Polish Cup. They managed to defeat 3-2 footballers of RKS Ursus. Although Young Legia was losing 0-2 after Medvediev’s and Goliczewski’s goals, it coped with the tough situation and was able to strike three goals and win the game. Although Legia’s footballers managed to defeat 4-0 Lechia’s players in the second leg of Polish Cup’s semifinal on Wednesday, they had to cope with 1-2 defeat in the game against the team from Gdańsk on Saturday. After a demure 1-0 victory over Lechia in the first leg of Polish Cup’s semifinal, Legia played the return match on Wednesday, hoping for the promotion to its final. Warsaw footballers predominated over their opponents practically in the whole game. This resulted in goals for the team from the capital Poland. Young Legia’s footballers managed to win 2-0 their match over their young rivals from Poznań (Młoda Ekstraklasa). Both goals were scored in the first half. The first one was struck by Michał Żyro in the 16th minute. The second one scored Alejandro Cabral a quarter later. There were seven players from Legia’s senior squad who appeared in the game: Kiełbowicz, Kelhar, Komorowski, Kneżević, Gol, Cabral and Żyro. Thanks to this victory Young Legia’s players still occupy the first position in the league.

Legia wasn’t able to win the fifth match in a row. Although they were definitely better on the pitch than their rivals and even due to great performance of Warsaw club’s goalkeeper Wojciech Skaba who let his team save its bacon many times, these were Lech’s footballers who struck the only goal of the game. This was scored in the 83rd minute by Artjoms Rudnevs.

After a few defeats in a row Legia managed not to lose its match. The team from Warsaw drew 2-2 with Zagłębie Lubin on Saturday. The first goal was scored by the team from Lower Silesia after a tremendous shot of Abwo. Just before the break Legia equalised thanks to a penalty which was executed by Vrdoljak. Maciej Skorża’s footballers predominated over their rivals most of the time but they suffered from the lack of efficacy.

In the first leg of Polish Cup’s semi-final Legia was able to win 1-0 with Lechia, although this was the team from Gdańsk which was leading most of the time. Footballers of Young Legia managed to defeat 3-2 (in contradiction to their senior colleagues) their young opponents from Bełchatów (Młoda Ekstraklasa), although these were GKS’s footballers who were leading 1-0 at first. Legia’s Ivica Vrdoljak wasn’t able to score a goal from a penalty which was dictated by the referee in the first half of the match.
